AMMO DISPENSER

This is a dispenser for the different kinds of ammo,
to make the stacking up of ammo a bit more realistic
(rather than having ammo strewn all over the floor...)

It has two buttons, one to choose the kind of ammo, and the
other to dispense it.

The design of this dispenser is kept as close to a real,
mechanical dispenser as possible. Item are displayed in a
window and, if selected, brought towards the player via
mechanical means. Items don't just appear or disappear into
thin air, but are presented or withdrawn as they would be in
real life.

The device is controlled by an array of 'mechanical' relays,
which are fully functional and can be 'hacked' by the player,
in order to get more ammo than perhaps intended during the game.

The dispenser can also be broken into from the side, which features
two internal switches for 'maintenance'.

Customization:

The ammo generated is unlimited in the distributed version.
To limit the amount, set the 'Number of Monsters' in MonsterMaker
named 'a_xxx' to the desired number (xxx stands for the specific type
of ammo - see attached flowchart for codes).

The 'mechanical' relays are hidden behind a panel on the front side
of the dispenser, at the top edge of the box. If this panel is made
indestructable, access to the relays will be disabled. The way the relays
work is that a horizontally sliding 'cycler' goes from one ammo relay to
the next, switching them on and off. If the dispenser button is pressed,
ammo of the type that has been switched on will be generated and transported
to the display window. These relays can also be switched on by shooting at
them. Which means that if I shoot at several of those relays and turn them
on, the next time the dispenser is activated, it will display several types
of ammo at once. (This would be a useful 'cheat' if the amount of ammo
to be dispensed would be limited for the game version.)

Access to the side of the dispenser can also be disabled by making that
particular panel indestructable.

As you can see from the included flow chart, this is a rather complex
piece of machinery, with 130 interdependend entities.
Luckily most of those are only used for the realistic display procedure,
and can be disregarded for customization purposes.

Production Info:

This prefab has been created from scratch as a sort of test bed for
the more advanced HL editing features, and took about 2 weeks to
finish.
It was built over a year ago, and I never got around to submitting
it before. So - even though I would like to help if any questions
are coming up, I am afraid it's been too long ago for me to remember
all the details about the functionality and interrelations of the
different entities.
But, nevertheless, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Also, if you do include this prefab in one of your maps, please be
so nice as to list me in the credits.
